Abstract

Domestic wastewater is the result of various daily human activities generated by
households, including wastewater from bathrooms, water closets, laundry, and
cooking activities, which can pollute the environment if not properly treated. This
study aims to examine the characteristics of domestic wastewater and the
effectiveness of using a natural coagulant made from the leaves and twigs of the
angsana tree in reducing pollutant parameters such as Potential of Hydrogen
(pH), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in
accordance with the quality standards set by the Regulation of the Minister of
Environment and Forestry (Permen LHK) No. 68 of 2016 concerning domestic
wastewater quality standards. The research method used was a laboratory
experiment with a quantitative approach to assess the effectiveness of angsana
leaves and twigs as coagulants before and after domestic wastewater treatment.
The treatment process involved the stages of coagulation, flocculation, and
sedimentation, with coagulant dose variations of 0.25 g, 0.5 g, and 0.75 g, and a
test volume of 500 ml. The results showed that the coagulant from angsana leaves
and twigs significantly reduced parameters, with a 0.25 g dose of twig coagulant
lowering TSS levels to 20 mg/L, COD to 68.1 mg/L, and achieving a pH value of
7.0. Based on the experimental results, the coagulant from angsana leaves and
twigs (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) was effective in reducing TSS and COD levels,
as well as maintaining a neutral pH in accordance with the established quality
standards.
